Accepting Who God Created You To Be – Part III

by Kim Avery

Transformed on Tuesdays

Everyone loves being in love. The honor, the thrill, and the certainty that we are special make lovers glow.

Now consider the fact that the One who loves us is the most important being in the universe, and we should literally be walking on air. But so often we’re not.

At times, God’s amazing, unconditional love is brushed aside because we are unwilling to love and accept who He has made us to be.

Two weeks ago we began discussing the importance of accepting who God created you to be (click here).   We discovered that when we begin to see ourselves as He does everything else starts to fall into place.

Continue opening yourself up to His love by meditating on the truths below. Take time to absorb them into your very soul and don’t forget to personalize them by replacing the underlined pronoun with your own name.

10 Evidences of God’s Love for Me ~ Part III

7.  God sings over me

Do you remember those first few nights with your newborn child? When you two were the only ones awake in the middle of the night when darkness had blanketed the earth and the silence was thick.  Except for one thing… if someone listened very closely they would hear the steady creak of a wooden rocker, back and forth, back and forth, and hear you sweetly singing a song of love over your precious child.

Now change the picture a bit. It’s night, your Heavenly Father is up, and the song He is singing is a song over you.

Far-fetched? Not really.

The LORD your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,

he will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17

Don’t forget to replace the underlined personal pronouns with your name.  It’s powerful.

Zephaniah tells us that God rejoices over you with singing.  His voice is lilting with love and delight all because of you.

God sings over you!

8.  God tells me His secrets.

Sharing secrets with a friend is a sacred trust. We only tell soul secrets to those with whom we have deep intimacy and trust. Hearing the secrets of another is an incredible privilege.

Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence Him.
With them alone He shares the secrets of His promises.
Psalm 25:14

Imagine God cupping His hand to your ear and whispering words He intends for you alone.  God’s Spirit continually whispers to the hearts of those in whom He makes His home. He tells you the truth of who you are, how important you are to Him, and His purpose for you in the world.

At times, God’s whispers may seem almost inaudible. His truths are easily blocked by busyness, inattentiveness and sin. But at other times, His words are a megaphone shouting His love into your ear. Either way, take the time to listen. God has secrets to share and you don’t want to miss a single one.

Accepting Who God Created You To Be – Part II

by Kim Avery

Transformed on Tuesdays

Are you hard on yourself? A perfectionist? Unhappy with the way you look? Do you ever wish you were someone else? Last week we began discussing the importance of accepting who God created you to be.  (Click here.)

God designed you, knit your parts together, planned your path in advance, and then called you His masterpiece. Who are we to disagree with Almighty God?

As women we are often so hard on ourselves that it borders on questioning God’s wisdom in making us as He did. I know you don’t want to do that. So, I hope you’ll continue to prayerfully ponder the truth of how God thinks of you and to begin to accept and like the you He created you to be.

Meditate on the truths below. Take time to absorb them into your very soul. Personalize them by replacing the underlined pronoun with your own name.

10 Evidences of God’s Love for Me ~ Part II

4. God is enthralled with my beauty.

A recent 23 year old Hollywood sensation underwent 10 plastic surgery procedures in one day to become what she called, ‘the best me.’ That is a costly and largely ineffective route to self acceptance.

God thinks you are beautiful just the way you are.

The King is enthralled by your beauty.
Psalm 45:11

Webster’s Dictionary defines enthrall as “to captivate or charm.” The Hebrew definition of the word is “desire.” In other words, God finds you so beautiful that He wants you for His own. It doesn’t get any better than that.

5. I am one of the most important things God ever created.

God has created some pretty amazing things: the sun, the moon, the Beluga whale, and my pet poodles Bob and Ralph. But what is at the top of His list? You and every other person God has breathed life into since time began.

God decided to give us life through the word of truth.
He wanted us to be the most important of all the things He made.
James 1:18

The next time you look at a sunset, the beauty of a wild rose, or the vastness of the Grand Canyon remember this, you are more important to God than any of these.

6. God rejoices over me.

When my daughter got married several years ago, the crowning moment of all our preparation was when the Wedding March began, the back doors flew open, and the bride appeared. Yet even as she appeared, for one brief second I risked looking away to see the face of her groom.

His entire being exuded joy. I knew my daughter would be in good hands.  She was loved.

God will rejoice over you as a bridegroom rejoices over His bride.
Isaiah 62:5

God is filled with joy every time He thinks of you. He is eagerly awaiting your arrival in heaven as a groom awaits his wedding day. God’s face lights up when He looks at you, and no one else can take your place in His heart.

Continue meditating on these truths and next week on Transformed on Tuesdays ~ Be All That God Created You to Be we will continue our exploration of God’s deep love for us.  In the meantime, soak in the wonder of a God who loves you and enjoy who He created you to be.

Which one of these evidences of God’s love speaks to you today? I hope you will take a minute to share your thoughts in the comment box below.

Accepting Who God Created You To Be

The Be All That God Created You To Be Series

If the bad news is that you can’t be whatever you want to be (see article), the good news is that you can increasingly grow into the you that you were created to be.

How?

The first step is to accept yourself as God created you and to begin to see yourself as He sees you.

Take the next few minutes to push the pause button on life. Step out of your insecurities. Search for His perspective. Feel what He feels. Wallow in the vast ocean of love He has for you.

Only when you dwell in this rich environment of total love and acceptance will you finally feel safe enough to dig your roots down deep and grow into the you God created you to be.

Begin by meditating on the truths below. Take time to absorb them into your very soul. Personalize them by replacing the underlined pronoun with your own name. (I have done the first one for you as an example.)

10 Evidences of God’s Love for Me

1. God pursued me when I was at my worst (God pursued Kim when Kim was at Kim’s worst.)

I used to wonder what God secretly thought about me. Was He disappointed? Did He wish I’d turned out differently? Was He tired of my constant failures, repeated sins, and failed promises?

Then this glorious truth came to my rescue.

But God demonstrates his own love for us (Kim) in this:
While we were still sinners (Kim was still a sinner), Christ died for us (Kim).
Romans 5:8

Look closely at that verse. Who were we when God loved us? Still sinners.

We weren’t cleaned up, dressed up, and doing good deeds. Our minds were full of self and our hearts were permeated with sin. Yet God looked down and loved us, and nothing we ever are or do will change His mind.

Loving us was literally the death of Him, but He loved us still. You will never be more loved than that.

2. God paid a ransom for my life. (Don’t forget to personalize with your name.)

Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
Isaiah 43:1

The word ransom conjures up some pretty scary images – kidnappers, cryptic notes, and rescue attempts that often fail. Even in our ‘civilized’ day and age, there are almost 10,000 kidnappings every  year with the kidnappers netting almost $500 million dollars.

In South America one business executive’s life was ransomed (bought back) for $7 million dollars. You and I have also been ransomed, but the price paid wasn’t in unmarked bills but with the blood of God’s Son shed on a cross.

The only reason people pay a ransom is because the person held captive is worth everything to them. You are immeasurably valuable to God, and it has been proven by the high price that He paid.

3. I am unique and uniquely valuable to God.

If you grew up in Sunday School, you probably had the chance to learn that wonderful verse John 3:16.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16

As a child, when I heard that God loved the world I pictured God loving the globe,  the map, nations, all people, everywhere.  And He does. And yet it is much more personal than that. He created, loved, pursed, and died for YOU.  You are distinct. You are unique.

Each of us is an original.
Galatians 5:26 (Msg.)

You are one of a kind. Rare. Distinctive. Completely irreplaceable.

Without the story of your life, God’s own eternal book would be missing a cherished chapter. No one else throughout the history of time, both past and future, can bring to this world the unique combination of gifts, personality, experience, and love that you can.

There is no one else that God will ever use to fill the places He’s uniquely designed for you.

Wow – I have already used more than my allotted word count for the day and have just begun to scratch the surface of how much God adores you. But I don’t want to quit. So, I will leave you to mediate on and revel in these truths, and we will just pick up where we left off next week on Transformed on Tuesdays ~ Be All That God Created You to Be.

Rejoice today in who God made you to be. You are loved!
