There’s A Song In My Heart
I have the privilege of teaching a ladies’ Bible study in the community each week. Meeting with Jesus-hungry women on Thursdays is often the highlight of my week. We laugh, cry, pray and encourage each other in the love of our Lord.
With each new 10-12 week study, I choose one theme song to for us to sing throughout the semester. A lot of thought and prayer goes into choosing that song as it really sets the tone for time together.
Even though years have passed, I still find myself humming the haunting tune and whispering the compelling words of my all-time favorite song. The lyrics beautifully captured the deepest desires of my heart and offered them as a poignant plea to the Father for the one and only thing I’ll ever need.
“Only Jesus! Only Jesus! Give me Jesus, I cry. Only Jesus! Only Jesus! The pearl of greatest price.”
Attaching Happy
As Lysa said in Chapter 12, it reminds me “to attach my happy to the only eternal stability there is and remain there.” I’ve printed out the words below and attached a video rendition so you can join me in this musical prayer. Enjoy!
Only Jesus
Words and Music by Doug Plank
Verse 1
Father of grace, You’ve sacrificed
Your only Son for us, the crucified Jesus
Enlarge our hearts to love Your Son
O grant to us the grace to walk with Him always
To make Him our great delight
Bringing worship with our lives
Chorus
Only Jesus! Only Jesus!
Give us Jesus, we cry
Only Jesus! Only Jesus!
The Pearl of greatest price
Verse 2
Spirit of grace, You’ve shed Your light
Upon our darkened eyes, unveiling Jesus Christ
Come change our hearts, conform our ways
To honor Jesus’ Name, His glory our refrain
Let His love compel our own
As we worship at His throne
Bridge
Jesus, our great Savior,
Lord of heaven, Son of God
What About You?
What helps you desire Jesus above all?

Thanks for the song Kim. Music draws me to the Lord.
Amen! He is glorious.
Out of all the songs we have used over the years, this one may be my favorite - the words also play through my mind regularly. Thanks for reminding me.
It’s replaying in my mind even as I type. “Only Jesus, only Jesus…”
Oops, I hope you had the volume turned down
I’m choosing to attach my happy to the only eternal stability there is. Amen! Jesus. Only Jesus.
YAY!!! What a glorious thought!!
