My Identity In Christ

Tell a student he is dumb and he will get bad grades. Treat a teen as if she is hopeless and she’ll stop trying. Studies prove that it is true – we inevitably live out our perceived identity. I do what I do because of who I believe that I am. What is on the inside is constantly revealing itself on the outside.

Who Am I?

Who are you? You were born a sinner and many times, no doubt you still act like one. And as a sinner you probably feel inferior, fear failure, dread rejection, and feel hopeless and shamed. That is how a sinner would feel.

The good news is, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior you are not a sinner but a saint. Yes, you still sin. But your sin no longer defines you. It may be what you do, but it is not who you are. Hear the good news about your identity in Christ.

All Things New

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

II Corinthians 5:17 (NASB)

You have been made new. You are no longer who you were, so everything has changed. You can now focus on Christ and His righteousness and as you do, Satan’s accusations fall flat. Your heart is filled with gladness as you understand you are fully accepted by an Almighty God. You no longer need to waste precious time and energy covering up your sin because while it might be what you do, it will never again be who you are.

Become Who You Are

Children become who we tell them they are. We too, as children of God, are constantly in the process of becoming who we are. We may still sin, but we are forgiven. Our record before God is more than wiped clean, it is filled with all of Christ’s good deeds. We are saints. And as we believe and grow into our identity in Christ, what is on the inside will more and more show on the outside – and it will be a beautiful reflection of Him!
