Jesus Loves Me
“Jesus love me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” Lovely sentiment, isn’t it? And while most of us can sing that song from memory, I wonder, do we really know just how much He loves us? Do we know His love at all?
Unconditional Love
Believing and delighting in the unsurpassed love of God doesn’t seem to come naturally. In fact, it is a love that is beyond our power to grasp. The reason is this: human love, no matter how grand is almost always conditional and situational. And because that is what we know, we unconsciously assume that God operates the same way. But He doesn’t!
Suppose I were to give you a hundred dollar bill. Would you want it? What if I crumpled it up? What if I stomped on it? No matter what I did to that hundred dollar bill, you would still want it. Why? Because nothing I do to it externally affects its true value.
God places such a high value on us that it cost Him the life of His Son just to have a relationship with us. Nothing that we do or that has been done to us affects that value. Nothing. His love is entirely unconditional and beyond human comprehension.
Supernatural Love
This is why Paul prays this prayer,
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:17-19
God’s love is so wide, so long, so high, and so deep that Paul has to pray that we will receive supernatural power just so we can understand it.
Unsurpassed Love
Think about God’s love for a minute. How much does God love Jesus? Well, He loves Jesus completely, fully, unconditionally, and without reservation. God could not love Jesus any more than He does. It doesn’t matter what superlatives you come up with, God loves Jesus more than that. He loves Him completely. He’s crazy about Jesus!
Now, listen to what Jesus prays in John 17:23, May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.
Did you catch that? Shockingly, God loves us just as much as He loves Jesus, completely, fully, unconditionally and without reservation. God could not love you any more than He already does. You are fully loved. He’s crazy about you, too.
Overflowing Love
The beauty of God’s amazing love is this, that as we believe it and receive it, it begins to overflow and spill out on all others. God’s love for Jesus is so vast that it spilled out on us. And as we accept and live out of the love He has for us, it will also overflow and drench all those around us. Because we are fully loved, we can love.
Ask God to give you His supernatural power to sing and believe “Jesus loves me.” Once you do, your life will be a fountain of love flowing into the hearts of all you meet.

Pain, rejection, abuse, past mistakes and an unending list of other circumstances all get in the way of receiving God’s unconditional love. These difficult experiences do more than interfere with our understanding of how much God loves us. Because we can’t give what we don’t have, it prevents us from loving others as well.

- Drink deeply of His delight in you
- Learn to love others in the same way that God loves you
