Fuel Your Passion for Jesus

You are a passionate person. How do I know? Because you were made in God’s image and He is passionate about you. This extraordinary relationship with God is to be the foundation and the fountain of everything else you ever say or do.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.
Mark 10:30

All of you is to be centered around all of Him.

Yet busyness, mediocrity, and selfish dreams can easily dull reality causing us to settle for lives that are half-hearted, half-baked, heart-deadening, and void of life.

You were made for more.

The Abundant Life

Jesus came to bring us a real, vibrant, passionate, abundant life. In that life, we will cry hard, play hard, work hard, suffer hard, and laugh out loud. We will really know and experience love and life like no other people can. Passion.

Let’s determine today to do more than just sit home and wait for that ‘first love’ with Jesus to reappear and sweep us off our feet. Let’s make every day a ‘first love’ day.

Return to Your First Love

Ask yourself this question, “How can I cultivate a lifestyle that will cause me to fall in love with Jesus again and again and again?”

Here are some of my ideas:

Surround yourself with godly friends

Ask a more mature Christian to become your mentor

Set timer on your watch to remind yourself to pray every hour

Write a meaningful verse on a 3×5 card and carry it throughout the day

Play Christian radio

Spend more time in prayer as you pray before each meal

Read ‘Practicing the Presence of God’

Incorporate music and hymns into your devotional time

Begin each day with set aside time with the Lord

Focus on a different name of God each day

Find one thing you love about God for each letter of the alphabet (I do this as I fall asleep each night)

Talk about Him in casual conversation

Find Him in all the little things (sunrise, rainbows, phone calls from friends, etc.)

Have a date night with Jesus

We were created to have a passion for God and to pursue our passions in God with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength.

Transformed on Tuesdays - Envy

Do you ever compare yourself to others and end up falling short? Me, too. Thankfully, the Christian life is NOT a competitive sport.

I’ll never forget sitting in a room of young mothers eager to listen and learn from one who had gone before. The room was expectant and still.

Beautifully dressed, every hair in place, the speaker floated to platform prepared to exhort and encourage these women during this insanely busy phase of their lives.

As a mother of adult children, that day’s presenter had indeed parented well and the audience was on the edge of their seats. The topic…

“Having Daily Devotions with God.”

A splash of humor and old family tale launched the talk, and I settled in to enjoy the ride. But strangely, only a few minutes into the speech, the eager smiles began to droop and the note-scribbling hands were stilled.

The speaker didn’t notice. She blindly continued on.

Soon shoulders slumped, eyes looked down, and the scent of discouragement permeated the room. Things were not going well.

Why? The presenter had forgotten.

She had forgotten what it was like to have 3 preschoolers at home and a baby who kept you up all night. She didn’t recall those days of whining voices, runny noses, and trips to the bathroom that were a group event. Instead, she assumed…

She assumed that everyone else should be just like her, and unfortunately everyone else there that day did as well.

The long lingering mornings of uninterrupted Bible reading and prayer may have been the speaker’s calling from God but it wasn’t theirs. The soaking in His presence while the world raced by was God’s plan for her but not for them. The coiffed hair, designer jeans, and elegantly draped silk scarf may have been her garb of the day but we all knew that a burp cloth and diaper bag would somehow ruin the look.

That precious speaker and those beautiful moms were called to very different things, and they all forgot.

The slumped shoulders, drooping eyes, and shuffling feet all reminded me comparison kills. Comparing ourselves to others can lead to guilt, pride, pressure, discouragement, inauthenticity, and more. The Christian life was never meant to be lived that way.

… the life of the Spirit…
means we will not compare ourselves with each other
as if one of us were better and another worse…
Each of us is an original.

Galatians 5:25

You are an original. Your personality is unique, your calling is unmatched, and your circumstances are yours alone. No one in the world can replace the remarkable you, and you are not meant to be exactly like them.

True joy and freedom only come when you are the best that God created YOU to be.

Be All That God Created You To Be ~ More Goals to Consider

Jump start your week by prayerfully pondering some more of the things that God may be calling you to as you engage in His transformation process.

Each Tuesday on Transformed on Tuesdays you will learn how to become more and more the woman God created you to be. Then, you can drop by each weekend to find a short list of ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Some of the ideas won’t be for you but others will be just what God has in mind.

Begin today to be all that God created you to be. Imagine the possibilities. You could…

Walk your talk.

Pray for others as you’ve told them you would.

Make Christ your sure foundation instead of trusting in your own strength or plans.

Add value to every conversation you have.

Identify and use your spiritual gifts.

Stop hesitating when God is calling you to do something.

Stop procrastinating. Today.

Do your ‘to-do’ list.

Communicate better by expanding your vocabulary.

Stop complaining.

True transformation is hard. Changing the habits of a lifetime takes prayer, planning, practice, self-forgiveness when you fall short, and the ability to make adjustments along the way. Accepting Who God Created Me to Be – Part IV

Accepting who God created you to be is possible, and it is transforming. When you embrace the many ways that God loves you just as you are, it fills you with joy, contentment, purpose, and a renewed power to love others even as you are loved.

I Corinthians 14:1 exhorts us to, “Go after a life of love as if your life depended on it - because it does.”

That beautiful call has been our focus these past four weeks. Begin soaking in God’s radical love for you by reviewing what you have learned so far and then rejoice as we cover our two final truths. Don’t forget to replace each underlined pronoun with your name. There is great power in applying God’s promises to your own life.

1. God pursued me when I was at my worst

2. God paid a ransom for my life.

3. I am unique and uniquely valuable to God.

4. God is enthralled with my beauty.

5. I am one of the most important things God ever created.

6. God rejoices over me.

7. God sings over me.

8. God tells me His secrets.

These are life transforming truths. But for many an awareness of this firm foundation of a love hasn’t always been theirs. What can you do if your sense of God’s love is more like a fading echo in an empty canyon?

If that describes you, then you will be thrilled to hear the last two evidences that we are going to discuss today.

10 Evidences of God’s Love for Me ~ Part IV

9. He never gives up on me.

Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:21-23

Today is the day that God wants you to begin anew. He wants you to know Him. He longs to fill your days and moments with His purpose, love, and delight. His plan is for every moment to count.

Your past is simply that - past. Your future is Jesus and today is a new day. Choose to embrace the truth of His unconditional love.

10. I was made for a love relationship with God.

Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Give ear and come to me;
hear me, that your soul may live.
Isaiah 55:1-3

God loves you so much that He is stretching out His arms of invitation today, “Come to Me and live.”

Accepting who God made you to be all begins with this amazing awareness, you were made for a love relationship with Him.
