I loved Chapter 11 in our “Made to Crave” book.
Lysa hit on many vital truths:
- When life gets hard we want to turn to food, but it will betray us every time.
- We have been around this mountain too many times. It’s time to turn north.
- We need a plan to help us deal with hard times.
- We should take off our masks and get honest with God
- Change is hard and just throwing up casual prayers hoping they will stick is not enough.
- We must silence the noise in our lives if we hope to hear from God.
- It’s okay to sit before God with our bad attitudes, heavy hearts and ocean of tears.
- The more we fill ourselves with the truth of His love, the less other things will have a hold on our hearts.
- He WILL tell us what to do and give us the strength to do it.
- We need a practical strategy to help us continually and specifically replace Satan’s lies with the truths of God’s love.
That very last point is my favorite one. In fact, it’s had such a powerful impact in my life that I want to spend tomorrow elaborating on it.
How About You?
In the meantime, I would love to hear your thoughts.
- Which truth(s) above really resonates with you at this point in your journey?
- Why?
- How can that truth help you in the week ahead?

Of the truths you listed above, the one that resonates with me this morning is this one: “The more we fill ourselves with the truth of His love, the less other things will have a hold on our hearts.”
I know that is a foundational truth in my life, and it is sort of like drinking water. If I’m out of the habit of drinking water, I’m always thirsty, always looking for the perfect liquid that will satisfy me. Usually coffee through the morning and then Diet Coke the rest of the day. But water? No thanks! I’m not THAT thirsty!!
However, when I’m drinking water regularly, the other stuff really doesn’t seem so appealing. More water? Yes, please!
And it’s like that with the Living Water in my life, too. The more I drink it in, the more thirst quenching it becomes.
I’m looking forward to finding out about your strategies, Kim!
Hi Susan,
I like it! I need to drink more deeply from both types of water, good ol’ H2O and the Living Water that fills my soul.
I like “we must silence the noise” and appreciated Lysa’s including silent prayer - wordless prayer - in this chapter. Too often in Christian circles prayer has been about chatting up God and I think more silence is better… even though sometimes it’s made me wonder if I’m doing it right!
Amen. I have been trying (although not always successfully ) to sit with the Lord in silence more and listen to Him instead of always talking. I’m sure He thinks it’s a nice change
.
‘The more we fill ourselves with the truth of His love, the less other things will have a hold on our hearts”
The more I learn and understand the truth about how God designed my body to work, and the best fuel to put in it physically and spiritually-than I can resist the fluff and go for the substance-the most satisfying. Truth is key-being truthful with ourselves and with God, and taking in truth-new truth about how to live healthy-truth is key.
Hi Robin,
What you said reminds me of the verse in John where Jesus says, “The truth will set you free.”
Great thoughts, thanks!
•We need a plan •We should take off our masks and get honest with God•Change is hard and just throwing up casual prayers hoping they will stick is not enough.
•Silence the noise in our lives •We need a practical strategy .
These all spoke to me. I know if I don’t prpare I don’t have a hope to change. I know we need to honest with God, but we also need to be honest with ourselves.
I think that planning and honesty are two of the most important things. I know there are days that I just run on emotion. If i don’t have a plan already in place, I sabotage myself.
Planning and honesty both with God and myself are important. I know that I need to ask God’s advice because He knows the future.
Hi Yolande,
You said, “I need to ask God’s advice because He knows the future.” You are so right. I don’t know why I default into thinking that my way is better – that’s just crazy.
God really does know the future, knows me and wants what is best for me. He is definitely the One I need to turn to first time, every time.
Thanks for the good thoughts.
He WILL tell us what to do and give us the strength to do it. I ask to live in the center of His will daily, and FINALLY it is is working. I think that we need to wait patiently for Him. There was a point recently where I was brought to my knees by Him. I wish I could have done it earlier. I wish I could have wanted to, but I didn’t and I was forced to and by His love, mercy and grace I am doing much better with the eating disorder. I can’t thank Him enough. I must sit still and listen for Him because I know He will speak on His time, not mine and only through Him will I have victory!
Amy
Hi Amy,
Why is it that we tend to resist the One who loves us most? I’ll never understand it but like you, am so thankfully that He keeps pursuing my heart until it is fully His.
