For weeks now, I’ve been surrounded by clutter. When we moved into our newly remodeled home all seemed complete except for one tiny thing – no doors or drawers. Due to a mix-up, all our lovely built in cabinets stand naked, exposing their unattractive stuff to the world.
At first, I accepted this uncomfortable situation with a cheerful attitude. After all, what are a few doors and drawers in the bigger scheme of life? But as each day goes by, I feel this mess weighing on me more and more. I’m increasingly distracted, discouraged, and drained of life. Physical clutter robs me of energy that could be used for better things.
This principle applies in other areas of life as well. Unresolved emotional baggage, nagging worries, unfinished business, lack of forgiveness and more are all energy drainers and the cost can be high. Clutter keeps you from being the best you can be.
Take a quick look around you and inside of you to see what you find. There may be undone items on your to-do list, piles of files, procrastinations, unresolved conflict, unanswered emails and more.
Today is the ideal time for you to begin to de-clutter your life and experience the joy and energy that comes with unencumbered living.
3 Steps to De-Cluttering
1. Sit down and make a list of all your energy drainers. Use this form to get you started (click here).
2. Count the cost of each one in terms of time, energy, frustration, relationship, money, peace of mind, etc.
3. Do something about each energy drainer if the cost is too high. Run each item through this decision making grid:
As each item gets crossed off your list, you will your feel hopefulness and energy return freeing you to focus on the people and things that matter most.
