Fuel Your Passion for Jesus

by Kim Avery

You are a passionate person. How do I know? Because you were made in God’s image and He is passionate about you. This extraordinary relationship with God is to be the foundation and the fountain of everything else you ever say or do.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.
Mark 10:30

All of you is to be centered around all of Him.

Yet busyness, mediocrity, and selfish dreams can easily dull reality causing us to settle for lives that are half-hearted, half-baked, heart-deadening, and void of life.

You were made for more.

The Abundant Life

Jesus came to bring us a real, vibrant, passionate, abundant life. In that life, we will cry hard, play hard, work hard, suffer hard, and laugh out loud. We will really know and experience love and life like no other people can. Passion.

Let’s determine today to do more than just sit home and wait for that ‘first love’ with Jesus to reappear and sweep us off our feet. Let’s make every day a ‘first love’ day.

Return to Your First Love

Ask yourself this question, “How can I cultivate a lifestyle that will cause me to fall in love with Jesus again and again and again?”

Here are some of my ideas:

Surround yourself with godly friends

Ask a more mature Christian to become your mentor

Set timer on your watch to remind yourself to pray every hour

Write a meaningful verse on a 3×5 card and carry it throughout the day

Play Christian radio

Spend more time in prayer as you pray before each meal

Read ‘Practicing the Presence of God’

Incorporate music and hymns into your devotional time

Begin each day with set aside time with the Lord

Focus on a different name of God each day

Find one thing you love about God for each letter of the alphabet (I do this as I fall asleep each night)

Talk about Him in casual conversation

Find Him in all the little things (sunrise, rainbows, phone calls from friends, etc.)

Have a date night with Jesus

We were created to have a passion for God and to pursue our passions in God with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength.

What will you commit to doing this week to fuel your affection for Him?
